Simon J Gibson OBE - Non Executive Director
Simon is Chief Executive of Wesley Clover Corporation, North America and Europe.
Wesley Clover is a Venture Fund specialising in seeding technology companies. He has broad management experience in high-technology industries in both North America and Europe. Before joining Wesley Clover, he was co-founder, President and CEO of Ubiquity Software Corporation. Ubiquity was named Innovator of the year in 2001 by the British Venture Capital Association and in 2007 Ubiquity was acquired by Avaya Inc.
He has served as VP of Marketing Communications at Newbridge Networks Corporation and in Product Management roles at Mitel. His early career was spent at Ericsson and British Telecom.
His current company directorships include Wesley Clover Corporation, the Celtic Manor Resort (host of the 2010 Ryder Cup), March Networks Corporation, Enfis, IQE plc and Isca Networks.
He has been the recipient of four national R&D awards and was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for his services to industry and to the community in South Wales in the 1999 Queen's Birthday Honours list. He is an advisor to several government bodies including the National Economic Research Advisory Panel. He recently chaired an independent panel evaluating the commercialisation issues in Higher Education on behalf of the National Assembly for Wales. Simon is a member of Ofcom’s National Advisory Committee.
He is also a Regent of Harris Manchester College at the University of Oxford and a member of the Council of Cardiff University and a member of the International Advisory Panel of Cardiff Business School. He chairs the Institute of Advanced Broadcasting and is the Visiting Professor of Entrepreneurship at the University of Wales, Newport. Simon is a Trustee of the Alacrity Foundation.
